Specialist Jaw, Head and Neck Physio
Romiley Physio was established in 2014 and is based in Oaklands Clinic at the back of Romiley Dental Practice, which has ample on-site parking and is easily accessible by car and public transport. Appointments are booked via telephone, text or email. Either call me on 07796 547139 or email info@romileyphysio.com and I will arrange a mutually suitable time.
As a cyclist, climber and walker, I am completely aware of the importance of keeping active and also understand how frustrating it can be when injuries and pain prevent you from doing what you enjoy. I don’t provide you with a quick fix or a set of exercises but educate you on your problems and how you can help yourself to get better. I have worked in the NHS since 1994 and in private practice since 2014, and treat a wide range of conditions as well as post injury and surgery. I use manual therapy, acupuncture and taping and teach structured exercises and email them to you using a professional exercise programme. Ultimately I teach you to self manage your condition as far as possible to return you to your optimum level of function.
I take self referrals and am recommended by GPs, dentists and maxillofacial/ENT consultants, and a large number are based on recommendations from previous patients.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists.

About Cathy
I qualified in 1994 as a Chartered Physiotherapist from Leeds Metropolitan University and have since worked at Manchester Royal Infirmary as a Junior Physiotherapist covering all medical and surgical rotations including out-patients, before moving to the Out-Patient Therapies department at Stepping Hill Hospital in 1996, where I have worked since.
With 28 years of experience working within all the specialities of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy including Paediatrics and Hydrotherapy, over the past 20 years I have specialised in the treatment and management of TMJ (jaw) and Vestibular Physiotherapy, whilst maintaining my general MSK skills. I work in the NHS taking referrals for patients with TMD (Temporomandibular Disorders) from the Maxillofacial department, as well as working as part of the Balance Clinic with an ENT Consultant and Audiologists. Here we assess, manage, and treat patients with Vestibular Rehabilitation.

Leading Jaw, Head and Neck Physio
I am one of the leading specialist TMD (jaw) physiotherapists in the UK. I work at Stepping Hill Hospital, taking referrals from the Maxillofacial Department, and privately I take referrals from specialist TMD dentists and Orofacial / Maxillofacial consultants for patients living in the North West England and Wales.
In 2009, I co-founded ACPTMD (Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Temporomandibular Disorders), and am Chairperson. ACPTMD promotes the importance of physiotherapy in the management of patients with Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and runs courses for UK and International Physiotherapists. We link in with specialist Orofacial Physiotherapists within Europe and the USA, attending international conferences, to ensure our standards of practice are in line with international guidelines. Recently we have been involved in the process of developing the RCS and NICE guidelines which evidence the effectiveness of physiotherapy for patients with TMD.
I also teach on the TMD module of the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice Musculoskeletal Management at Sheffield Hallamshire University, and in 2022 I participated in a study about the Effectiveness of Physiotherapy Management in TMD: https://doi.org/10.1111/ors.12712

Physio for dizziness and problems with balance
I work with an ENT Consultant and audiologist in the ENT Balance Clinic in Stepping Hill Hospital. Using specialist balance testing equipment, we diagnose, manage and treat patients with dizziness and balance problems. I also run a Vestibular Rehabilitation clinic to treat these patients, enabling them to return to their previous levels of function.
Privately, I take referrals from ENT Consultants and self referrals either through word of mouth or via my website. I have over 15 years experience of treating patients with dizziness, and maintain my skills through training and updates. I am a member of ACPIVR (Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Vestibular Rehabilitation) and am on their register of practitioners.

Physio for musicians
As a member of BAPAM (Association for Performing Arts Medicine), I have developed an interest in this area and have treated professional musicians and students from the RNCM. As a violinist and pianist I can draw on my own experience of playing in orchestras and ensembles.
